Main technical characteristics for choosing scanner

In Matrix resolution, the higher is this figure, the better the digital image will be. The technical characteristics indicate 2 types of resolution: for example, 1200x1200 dpi and 2400x2400 dpi. The first group of numbers denotes the usual, or real, resolution, which you should pay attention to when buying. The second group shows the extent to which it is possible to artificially increase the resolution, while losing quality. For the Accounts Payable Scanning this is important.

It will be enough for scanning texts if the optical resolution is in the range of 200-300 dpi, about 600 dpi is needed for working with images, and processing slides with their subsequent printing on A4 sheets requires at least 2400 dpi. In the same price category, you can find scanners with very different resolutions: in most models it ranges between 600 and 4800 dpi.

Scan speed: This parameter indicates how many pages per minute the device can handle. The higher the resolution, the lower the scanning speed will be, since the instrument will take more time to process the image. As a rule, black and white sheets are scanned faster than color, although in some devices these figures are identical. The average processing speed of b / w sheets is from 5 to 45 sheets per minute , it strongly depends on the type of device. 3. Depth of color

Maximum paper size: Most scanner models are focused on the size of a standard A4 sheet. Compact devices can handle images, the dimensions of which do not exceed the format A6. Professional devices are able to scan sheets of large sizes, from A3 to A0. The larger the format that a scanner can handle, the higher its price will be. The Accounts Payable software also works fine here.

Format of scanned files: The processed images can be output to a computer in several formats: JPG, PDF, TIFF, BMP, RTF, TXT, etc. It is desirable that the scanner can record files with different extensions. This will save the user from additional work on the translation in the desired format. Some scanners are available for certain operating systems: the device, “sharpened” under Windows, will not work in Mac OS. Before buying, ask for which OS a particular model is designed for. There are also devices that can work in any systems. This characteristic does not depend on the price, but on the brand: some manufacturers produce exclusively multisystem devices.
